In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

  • If we take the gelatin from lawful animals, it is permissible to consume it
  • It is permissible to consume gelatin-based medicines if a medical expert recommends using them and they are not harmful.

Answering your question, Dar Al-Ifta Al-Misriyyah, states:

It is permissible to consume gelatin derived from animals deemed lawful for human consumption while it is not permissible to consume gelatin derived from animals deemed prohibited for human consumption.

Generally speaking, it is permissible to consume gelatin-based medicines if they are prescribed by a medical expert and are not harmful. This is because the gelatin is transformed into a different enzyme during the manufacturing process.

Almighty Allah knows best.
